Job Summary:
The ideal candidate will be responsible for the daily operations and use of cutting-edge chromatography technologies to separate, purify, and analyze small molecule compounds for various research and development initiatives. This role will also involve overseeing external vendors and service providers for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and technical/process development of laboratory instruments, with a focus on optimizing analytical workflows and improving throughput.
Key Responsibilities:
- Expertly apply advanced chromatographic techniques for the analysis and separation of small molecules, including HPLC/UPLC, LC-MS, SFC, UV-Vis/Spectroscopy, and others.
- Manage, prioritize, and complete analytical separation tasks using chromatographic methods for drug substances that involve complex matrices.
- Employ high-throughput techniques for compound library purification and array purification using LCMS and automated robotic systems.
- Ensure the application of best practices for the analysis and mid-scale purification of small molecule drug samples from medicinal chemistry synthesis.
- Coordinate with internal teams and external vendors for the maintenance and servicing of analytical instruments.
- Contribute to the strategic and tactical development of analytical chemistry planning, focusing on technical aspects and development.
- Independently drive tasks to meet goals and deliverables.
Qualifications:
- PhD in Analytical Chemistry or a related field with at least two years of relevant experience, OR
- MS in Analytical Chemistry or a related field with at least seven years of chromatography experience in drug discovery, OR
- BS in Analytical Chemistry or a related field with at least nine years of chromatography experience in drug discovery, OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Experience:
- Practical experience with analytical instrumentation, including HPLC and LCMS.
- Hands-on experience with automation in liquid handling processes.
- Background in chromatography for small molecule drug discovery in a pharmaceutical setting.
- Experience in developing analytical methods, particularly HPLC and SFC, for testing small molecules and drug products.
- Proficiency in the purification and characterization of small molecule compounds on scales from milligrams to grams.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Advanced technical expertise in small molecule separation using modern chromatographic techniques such as Reverse Phase LC/UPLC, LCMS, and SFC.
- Proficient in the use of automatic liquid handlers/robotics and related data processing software.
- Familiarity with NMR spectroscopy is an advantage.
- Strong interpersonal skills, adaptability in a dynamic work environment, and the ability to collaborate effectively with teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
