Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Associate Director of Medical Affairs to support our growing ophthalmology portfolio. This individual will serve as a key medical and scientific resource both internally and externally, contributing to the development and execution of medical strategy and field engagement plans.
The ideal candidate will bring deep therapeutic knowledge in ophthalmology and a strong understanding of the medical affairs function within a biopharma or med device environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the development and execution of the medical affairs strategy for assigned ophthalmology products or pipeline assets.
Serve as the medical lead for cross-functional teams, providing clinical insights to support commercial, clinical development, regulatory, and market access initiatives.
Engage and maintain strong relationships with KOLs, academic experts, and healthcare professionals in the ophthalmology space.
Support scientific communications, including publications, congress planning, and medical education initiatives.
Lead or contribute to Advisory Boards, Investigator Meetings, and Medical/Legal/Regulatory (MLR) review of materials.
Oversee or collaborate on Investigator-Initiated Trials (IITs) and real-world evidence generation activities.
Mentor field medical teams (e.g., MSLs) and align on scientific objectives and territory strategies.
Monitor and analyze relevant clinical literature, treatment guidelines, and competitive landscape to inform strategy and positioning.
Qualifications:
Advanced degree required (MD, PhD, OD, or PharmD preferred).
Minimum 7 years of relevant medical affairs experience in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or medical device industry.
Demonstrated expertise in ophthalmology (retina, cornea, glaucoma, etc.) required.
Experience interacting with KOLs and supporting field medical teams.
Strong knowledge of clinical trial data, medical strategy, and scientific exchange practices.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Preferred Experience:
Prior involvement in product launch or late-stage development in ophthalmology.
Familiarity with regulatory and compliance requirements in medical affairs.
Experience in rare or inherited eye diseases is a plus.
