Position Overview:
Our client are looking for a talented and driven Scientist with expertise in NGS technologies, automation systems, and bioinformatics to join our growing genomics team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in NGS workflows, automation of laboratory processes, and managing laboratory data using Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS). Proficiency in Python is required for data analysis, automation scripting, and workflow optimization. This is a dynamic role that combines experimental design, automation integration, and data analysis in a collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and optimize NGS workflows, including sample preparation, sequencing, and data processing, with an emphasis on automation and efficiency.
- Integrate and optimise automated systems (e.g., liquid handling robots, plate readers) to improve throughput and reproducibility in NGS laboratory processes.
- Utilize LIMS to manage, track, and report on sample data and ensure compliance with regulatory and quality standards.
- Create and maintain Python scripts to automate data processing, experimental workflows, and laboratory operations.
- Analyse large-scale genomic data from NGS experiments, including variant calling, RNA-Seq, and other genomic analysis techniques.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including bioinformaticians, lab technicians, and software engineers, to streamline NGS processes and improve data accuracy and quality.
- Troubleshoot automation issues, resolve technical problems, and ensure seamless integration between laboratory equipment, LIMS, and data analysis tools.
- Assist with the development and validation of new NGS applications and technologies, ensuring scalability and performance optimization.
- Contribute to the preparation of scientific reports, publications, and presentations based on experimental data and findings.
- Stay up-to-date on the latest advances in NGS technologies, automation tools, and bioinformatics techniques to drive continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Genomics, Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, Engineering, or a related field, or a Master's degree with relevant experience.
- Proven experience with laboratory automation systems, including liquid handling platforms (e.g., Hamilton, Tecan), automation software, and optimizing laboratory workflows.
- Proficiency in using and managing Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) for tracking, managing, and reporting genomic data.
- Strong programming skills in Python, with experience in automating data analysis pipelines and laboratory processes.
- Familiarity with bioinformatics tools for genomic data analysis (e.g., GATK, BWA, STAR, DESeq2).
- Solid understanding of molecular biology techniques, genomics applications, and NGS data analysis methods.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail in both experimental and computational tasks.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex scientific concepts to a broad audience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with additional automation platforms or robotic systems.
- Familiarity with cloud-based solutions for genomic data management and analysis (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud).
- Previous experience in a high-throughput or commercial genomics lab environment.
- Knowledge of regulatory standards in genomics and clinical diagnostics (e.g., CLIA, CAP).
- Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Matplotlib, Seaborn) and analysis of high-dimensional data.
